NQRA F Standard Team wins 2014 National Teams Trophy

Team Captain John Lorimer reports:

The 2014 F Class National Teams Championships were contested on the Campbelltown Rifle Range in Tasmania from 2 to 5 March with 8 F Standard and 6 F Open State & Territory teams participating.

The NQRA F Standard Team consisting of John Lorimer (Captain-Townsville), Jim Blomfield (Coach-Bowen), Vicki Cusick (Manager-Cairns) and shooters Shane Green, Steve and Charles Lazarus (Cairns) and Liz and Murray Wilson (Ravenshoe) had a disappointing start at the 300yds range. But the team knuckled down under Jim Blomfield's coaching, and was only defeated by one point by the Victorian team in the South Australia Match (300, 600, 900, 1000 yds).

The team was again defeated in the Queensland Match (1000 yds x 15 shots) by 4 points by the South Australian Team.

Consistency is the name of the game, and this is where the NQ team excelled. The team took out the Long range Aggregate trophy by 13 points 7 9 super Vs ahead of the nearest contender, and then to put the icing on the cake, won the prestigious National Teams Trophy with 4 points and 7 super Vs ahead of the Victorian team.

How did a team consisting of 2 A Grade and 3 B Grade shooters achieve these wins in a National Teams Championship? I believe it was a combination of pre-shoot rifle preparation, good coaching and a team of shooters who worked together with one thought in mind, and that was, they were shooting for their state.

I feel deeply honoured to have captained this team of North Queenslanders.

There are some people that need to be recognised who contributed in some way to this team success. Thanks go to the NQRA for their monetary contribution, Phil Mastin Gunsmith for putting together four excellent rifles out of the five used, members of the Australian F Open & F/TR Teams, who assisted with pre-shoot team preparation.

Thank you to the NQ Clubs that made their ranges available for the training of the team.

Brisbane is the next venue for the National F Class Teams Championships in 18 months time. I feel certain that the NQRA will have no problems fielding competitive teams in both F Class disciplines.
